2022 Cruise

2022 Annual JYC Cruise

July 22-July 30

Hello Cruisers!

The 2022 Cruise is happening!   Here is all the information you need to join the annual JYC Cruise
Accommodations:
  • Block Island:  JYC mooring (max. 3 boats), town moorings (first come first served), Anchorage.
  • Coecles Harbor: Coecles Harbor Marina (Dockwa), Anchorage.
  • Dering Harbor: Shelter Island Yacht Club
  • Stonington: Dodson’s Marina, Anchorage.

A few notes about Accommodations:

  • As B.I. fills up quickly on a Friday, we will probably only figure everything out as we arrive, I am going to ask to have an email sent out to the membership to reserve the club mooring for those on the cruise that night.
  • If you plan on a mooring in Coecles harbor you should have arranged that on Dockwa already, but as of today it looks like they still have availability.  I understand there is ample room in the anchorage although it is a long dinghy ride to the landing.
  • Deviation from previous itinerary: Some felt that four nights in Dering Harbor was too much and wanted more variety.  We are not confirmed at SIYC until 7/26. Please plan on an option for 7/25, either extend at Coecles Harbor Marina, move to the anchorage, or to another harbor.  Sorry for the short notice.  Brown-Eyed Girl plans on anchoring in West Neck.  If you would like to go to Dering on 7/25, please let me know and I will check availability with the yacht club for you. (Picozzi’s Marina also has moorings in Dering Harbor 631-749-0045)
  • The he cruise dinner  will be at Shelter Island Yacht Club  on 7/28.  Always a great meal.
  • Dodson’s marina takes mooring reservations on their website only (dodsonboatyard.com)  For our boat they were quite expensive ($100+) so Brown-Eyed Girl will be anchoring that night.
  • There are a few other harbors around Shelter Island that may interest you such as: West Neck or Sag Harbor, feel free to check them out.

Scavenger Hunt:

  • As last year’s winner (who traditionally is responsible for this year’s hunt) is not cruising with us this year, would someone like to volunteer to put one together? Please?

Mini Fool’s Rule Regatta:

  • Will be held in Dering Harbor.

Under Way:

  • Low tide at Newport on 7/22 is at 0851, I suggest all boats should rendezvous just south of the Beavertail mark at 0900, hopefully that will have all the sailboats at B.I. between 1500 – 1600hrs.  (the power boats can run ahead and save spots!)
  • Per our usual we will monitor Ch. 69 & 16 underway and check in at the top of the hour on Ch.69
  • Navigation for the first two legs is fairly simple, from B.I. to S.I. the first waypoint is Cerebus Shoal (G “9” Fl G 4s Gong), then on to
  • Gardiners Point (G “1GI” Fl G 4s Gong) keep to Port.  After that it’s right into Coecles Harbor.
I have included a few attachments to this email including: updated itinerary, SIYC visitor Info., and a copy of the cruising guide pages for Shelter Island.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, can’t wait to see everyone out there!
